Contemporary Medusa is an interdisciplinary international peer-reviewed journal (published regularly twice a year) dedicated primarily to publishing manuscripts that speak to the major issues in Gender Studies. The journal considers publishing highly selective research in gender theory and practice. The scholarship to be published in Contemporary Medusa is diverse and comprises a blend of methodological and theoretical approaches. It tries to document voices of inequity/inequality in the contemporary world and educates instead on topics of diversity and inclusion.

The journal welcomes latest research contributions that have the potential of transforming our collective understanding of gender and sexuality dynamics fluctuating power relations in global spaces, and encourages submissions that foster equality essential for modelling a vision of a more just society. The journal further adopts a gender justice agenda that promotes thinking, dialogue and debate between academic gender researchers, activists within the feminist movement and other segment of civil society; an agenda which sets out a commitment to a fairer world for all.

Contemporary Medusa accepts publication from all over the world and covers a wide range of gender-related disciplines with an intersectional framework and a focus on political, economic, socio-cultural, religious, educational, linguistic, psychological, scientific, technological, environmental and other internal/external influences driving the parameters of gender conformity. Types of contributions include: original research papers, review papers, conference papers, dissertation summaries, brief data reports and empirical research articles written in English, French and Arabic not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Contemporary Medusa is a biannual journal, published regularly twice a year.

Open Access Policy

The journal considers providing a barrier-free access to full texts on the principle of providing a global knowledge exchange.

Publication Fees

There are no fees for manuscripts processing and online publishing (for hard copies authors must contact the chief editor for payment and shipping).

Confidentiality & Privacy

The journal takes anonymity very seriously, protects secrecy and requires that the editorial team, the advisory board, the editor in chief and the publisher must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone else but the corresponding author (s).

Conflict of Interest Policy

Contemporary Medusa requires all its authors and editors to declare any conflict of interest that may subjectively influence any decision about a publication.

Publication Ethics

All persons involved in the act of publishing their works (including the editors, reviewers and the editor in chief) are not allowed to make individual decisions and should expect that their submissions will be anonymously evaluated and handled with the same rigour as anybody else. In other words, the editorial members can have their manuscripts published as long as the peer review is carried out without bias.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Should any plagiarism be identified in any submission, the manuscript will not be considered for publication (the anti-plagiarism policy applies even to editorial board members). The journal is strictly against full, partial and self-plagiarism and does not accept previously published manuscripts that contain new data. We hereby declare to authors that we are using a software tool for checking all submissions for similarity score (plagiarism reports are later sent out to authors as a proof of their acts).

Authors Guidelines

  • Papers should be submitted in Word format.
  • Author details should be included in title page with full name and affiliation.
  • One author should be designated as the corresponding author (for co-authored papers).
  • If your work is supported under a grant, please supply necessary details.
  • All authors should consider submitting a separate title page, a main manuscript document, and supplementary files.
  • Figures should be presented in high quality (JPEG format is preferred).
  • All authors are requested to remove materials that identify them inside the text (manuscripts are sent anonymously for editorial evaluation).
  • All authors are requested to avoid making references to their own work unless it is absolutely necessary (the editor should be notified in advance).
  • Third party material must be acknowledged in your paper.
  • Papers should be approximately 16 pages (including an abstract), notes and references. Short reports and dissertation summaries should be no more than 8 pages including figures and tables.
  • All tables, figures, and appendices must be submitted together in one file. -Authors should not number the pages.

*All manuscripts must conform to the APA Manual of Style

Rights of Authors and Permissions

Authors retain all rights, including intellectual property rights associated with any idea, process, methodology, theory and concept. We further support authors to reproduce and disseminate their research, however; all authors must submit their request to the journal’s editors and acknowledge Contemporary Medusa as an appropriate copyright holder in their future publications. All authors must ensure all necessary permissions have been obtained for reproducing any copyright material.

Ethical Obligations of Authors

  • Authors should give appropriate attribution to past research.
  • Public sources must be referenced and fully acknowledged in the caption.
  • Authors are not allowed to make changes to manuscripts that have been accepted.
  • Any potential conflict of interest must be revealed to the editors.
  • The results presented in manuscripts should be presented without fabrication and falsification of research data.
